Food Security Fridays -- Week 12: Additional Statistics ======================================================== What's inside "complex" households? USDA reports use a binary "complex household" flag. That single category hides enormous diversity: - 33.4% are multigenerational - 33.4% are cohabiting couples - 14.7% are unrelated co-residents - 11.4% are extended kin - 7.1% are sibling co-residence FI rates range from 16.1% to 19.0%. SNAP participation gaps (among food-insecure HHs): - Grandfamily: 49.7% - Cohabiting w/ children: 46.7% - Single parent: 46.1% - Multigenerational: 42.6% - Extended kin: 34.9% - Married w/ children: 27.1% Immigrant-headed households: 15.8% food insecure vs. 13.3% native-headed. Among food-insecure immigrant HHs, only 28.4% receive SNAP vs. 36.1% of native-headed. Mixed-status families (immigrant parents, U.S.-born children): 19.1% food insecure.
